Well, the painting is almost finished now FINALLY! It is really looking different in the store now. I invite everyone to come by and take a look. We still have just a little painting left to do and even less wall paper to put up, then for the fun part.....hanging the pictures in places that look good and that the birds can not reach to chew on. Hmmm.......that task is harder than it sounds. We have lowered prices on most all the inventory also. We are just going crazy at the store slashing prices on birds first now most all the rest of the inventory!! You better come take advantage of it before the paint fumes wear off and we come back to our senses! Can't guarantee how long this will go on before we realize how nuts we are for doing this. Mention this blog for an additional discount from now until the end of February.

Status of Redecorating

Ok, we are still redecorating the shop. However we are making progress daily. It has been a little tough to paint and wall paper the store when the store is open for business, so we have been spending a lot of days there after hours trying to get it all done. We are rearranging the store to make it more inviting and comfortable for our babies as well as our customers. When you come in to see the new changes please be patient and understanding with our current mess. We are working as quickly as possible to get finished so everyone can enjoy the new atmosphere we are creating. In addition to the new redecorating, like that is not a big enough project, we also purchased a new cash register system which is requiring us to do yet another inventory and input every single item by hand, so that creates another mess all by itself for everyone to deal with. So, again please overlook the mess we are making.

Bird House Updates

Well this is my first blog since we purchased the shop at the beginning of this year and things are very busy right now. We have a lot of changes in the works. We will be adding a shopping cart to our website soon, but in the mean time check out the updates we have already made. We are also painting and redecorating the store for a nice clean face lift. We are restocking and ordering some new products to offer our customers. Our idea is a larger selection of great products. We are currently having a large bird sale right now as well, Blue and Gold Macaws and Lesser Sulfur Crested Cockatoos are up to 35% off select birds! Come by the shop and pick out the perfect addition to your family. And last but certainly not least, we are hosting a DNA and Micro Chipping Clinic at our store on March 7, 2010 at 1 pm, so if you want to know what your baby really is or if you want to make sure you never lose him or her especially during hurricane season, give us a call and make your reservation. We will need to know at least a week in advance how many of you will be attending so we make sure to have enough supplies for everyone interested. We look forward to meeting each and every one of you. Your continued business and support is greatly appreciated.

A New Owner of Bird House of Montague!!!

Welcome to Scott and LeeAnna Fitzgerald, the new owners of Bird House of Montague! We are so pleased that such a wonderful Christian family is taking our place in this wonderful business! They are not only the new owners of the business, they are also our neighbors, and our brothers and sisters in Christ...we also worship our Lord in the same church!!! We are still part of a huge Bird House of Montague family!!! I will hang around the shop until they "kick me out :0)!" just to consult on birds, maybe sweep up from time to time...but mostly to play with the birds and visit with customers! Hawkhead Parrot Return

Our little Hawk Head Parrot was returned to us yesterday, 31 Dec 09, by the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Department detective! We were and are so very thankful and happy. He had been roughed up a little, and he was very hungry, thirsty, and had regressed back to being almost chicklike even with a little chick cry. After feeding and giving him water and lots of cuddle time for about 2 hours, he finally said "hi!" That was exactly what we were waiting on! He is so precious to us. Thanks to all who helped us look for him. The woman that stole him had a prior record and will be dealth with by authorities! We are so happy to have him back! Praise God for all good things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Help us find our Hawk Head Parrot

A woman stole this parrot from our shop 22Dec09!!! Please help us locate this birdie...lots of people are very upset about this. We have the woman on the security video walking around and sitting in the shop holding different birds...then, walking out with our Hawk Head. Officials have been notified and they have security video...it will be posted on TV as well as everywhere else we can think of. The photos will posted in all official buildings. We will post flyers in every store, vet office, pet shops and everywhere else we can think of! Please help us locate our bird if you can! And, please pray he is returned to us and pray for his safety. There will definitely be a reward!!!!!

Hawk Head Parrot Stolen from Shop

Yes, can you believe someone would stoop so low?!? We have the woman on our security video holding him and then walking to the other side of shop with him then out the door. Sheriff Dept doing investigation and will be posting crime photo with her face, vehicle, and Hawk Head. Local TV stations will have her video and photo of Hawk Head Parrot also...everyone seems very interested thinking they will be stealing from other pet/bird shop also. Today, I noticed just how many of our customers have stuck with us through thick and thin through the years...it makes my heart feel great. It's been hard the last few months...but there they are continuing to patronize our shop, and coming in just to spend time and visit with us and the birds. I'm finding out that these are not just loyal customers...they are true friends and really family...and I appreciate them so very much. There are as many hugs shared at our shop as there are at family reunions!!! I pray our good Lord blesses them all greatly!!! Thanks everyone, Linda

Economy situation is scary!!!

Yep, the economy situation IS scary! Small business' all around are closing!!! But, we thank our Lord, our customers are sticking by our side and keeping us open. We are so VERY thankful for them. Believe it or not...we still even have new customers coming in every week (sometimes every day) saying they have never seen anything like our shop! It makes us feel great that they are pleasantly surprised. The birds are so friendly...and always begging to be held. The inventory is still up as we prepare for the holiday season. We will still have our yearly sale and refreshments the weekend before Thanksgiving. We pray everyone will drop by and see us!

By the way, these are two of the baby blue and gold macaws that we have in the shop. And due to the economy...Paula is making some terrific deals. Our bird prices have never been so low!!! Especially the macaws! And, we still have a great selection of smaller parrats also!

Yep...I seems it happens every year now...our Blue and Gold Macaws give us too many babies! Not complaining of course, but we have to lower their prices, so we can make room for the other new babies coming in. If you can offer a Blue and Gold Macaw a loving home...call Paula (850 916 3234;) she is making great deals on them. We were selling them for $1550...now much, much lower. Call her! She'll even make you a great deal on a cage too! Some of them are completely weaned already, some will be ready in a month - a couple of months, some are still in the nursery, some coming in a few weeks. We will take 20% deposit as down payment on layaways.

It's so exciting when all the new babies start coming into the nursery! Today, a Medium Sulphur Crested Cockatoo and a Goffin Cockatoo were added. Sales are definitely picking up with Spring arriving also. The shop was packed again today! So much fun having everyone around playing with the birds.

Well, it's nearing the end of the "baby season" and I'm glad!!! We have so many Blue and Gold Macaws, we're gonna have to have a huge sale!!! The babies just moved out of the nursery and into the shop area. So now, they are begging everyone that walks to by to "step up!" The are so sweet and loving, giving everyone hugs. Even though we are still hand feeding them once a day, I'm ready to go ahead and make some great deals with our layaway program. Actually, layaway is a great way to get them paid for before Christmas!

There are so many of the birds talking in the shop right now, it sounds more like a day care center than a bird shop! I would love for everyone to stop for a visit; you just gotta see and hear these little guys to really appreciate them.

Baby Hawkhead is here!!!!

Baby Hawkhead arrived Friday at 27 days old! So adorable! I sold my last one in June, and since we only get one a year...I was very excited to have this one come into our life! They are getting more and more rare around here. We also have some more new babies in the nursery...a Lesser Sulfur Crested Cockatoo, Severe Macaw, White Cap Pionus, Orange Wing Amazon, Umbrella Cockatoo, Timneh African Grey, 6 Blue and Gold Macaws, and 2 Greenwing Macaws. Our nursery is FULL of babies!!! And, there are still some more babies that on just one feeding a day in the shop...Maximillion Pionus, Blue Headed Pionus, Rainbow Lorikeets, Caiques, Blue Fronted Amazons, Yellow Nape Amazons, Blue and Gold Macaws, Cockatoos, Congo African Greys, Blue Crown Conures, and more!!! We still haven't sold all of our small conures...cinnomon, yellow sided, and black caps...AND, we still have Quakers!!! Blues and Normals!!! We also have the cutest Lutino Indian Ringneck! The Eastern Rosellas are still here too. So, I pray that someone sends us some interested customers soon! I'm hearing "Here I Come To Save The Day" from the Panama Amazons every morning and every evening and sometimes in the middle of the day...they are so funny singing! And they are beginning to learn everything that Tripper, my Double Yellow, says and sings too. With all the different kinds of birds right now, it has been a lot of fun just hanging around the shop and enjoying them and their antics!!!

Emerald Coast Exotic Bird Club Meeting

Our club met yesterday, Aug 3rd; and we had a great time. We learned a lot from some DVDs by Tani Robar on training our birds tricks. She makes it seem so easy; I can't wait to try some of her techniques. We had one new member this month; and we had quiet a few of those attending the meeting take advantage of our 15% off toys, perches, playstands, and food. So, all in all it was a great meeting and great day for Bird House of Montague. We hope more new people will come to enjoy next month's meeting and take advanatage of the savings. We even had more birds go to their new homes...Sunday is becoming a busy day for us!

Too Many Blue and Gold Macaws! Help!

We have three more fertile Blue and Gold eggs!!! Yikes!!! I have lowered the price of three of our Blue and Golds from last season to $1000. Send everyone our way! They are all sweet, hand fed and hand friendly of course! We also have $100 off all of last seasons birds...Cockatoos, Amazons, Macaws, Conures, and more!!! As you can see these parrots are very active birds and are really entertaining little birds. They don't make loud noises and although they need a specialized diet they are easy to feed.

Emerald Coast Exotic Bird Club Meeting November 4

Just a reminder our Emerald Coast Exotic Bird Club meeting is November 4th.

This month Dr. Culotta, DVM will discuss bird husbandry and other topics pertinent to our feathered friends. Dr. Culotta held the Microchipping and DNA Sexing Clinic earlier this year. Please be sure to attend, you won't want to miss this meeting and bring your questions for Dr. Culotta.

This is going to be a very informative meeting and a must for anyone who has a bird or is thinking of adopting a parrot!!

Our meetings are held on the first Sunday of every month at 2:00 pm. All members are invited and the public is always welcome to come also. Our meetings are very informal and we always have great snacks!!

African Greys

Senegals make TERRIFIC family Pets!!

These two senegals sure need a home!! They are very sweet and snuggly. They love to come out of their cage and climb on you, shuffle through your hair, nibble on your ear, or give you kisses. They also appreciate time on a birdy play stand. I guarantee you will be entertained as they play on their play gym!! Senegals never sit still and will wander around a play gym trying each ladder, swing, and perch!!

Senegals are really quiet birds and do not have loud voices or screeches. They can learn a few words and talk in a sweet whistly voice. Senegals are VERY good at learning phone rings and other beeps and dings around the house. In no time you will be trying to figure out if the phone is ringing or if your senegal is ringing!!

Senegals are also independent birds. They of course appreciate time with their owners, but they also can entertain themselves nicely.

If you think a senegal would make a good pet for your family we would love it if you came to visit our two weaned Senegals available now!!

Double Yellow Head Amazons

Here are a couple of Double Yellow head Amazons. Most amazon's make this honking noise as babies. It's cute isn't it? These babies are in our nursery and are about 3 weeks old. They wean usually at about 12 to 16 weeks of age, so these babies will be ready sometime in September.

Caique Babies

These two White Belly Caiques are about 7 weeks old. They make this screaming noise just about 24 hours a day!! But....as soon as they get closer to being weaned they do stop the screaming. And are actually fairly quiet pet birds. They are very acrobatic and need lots of room in their cage and exciting activity type toys to keep them busy. And you can never deny your pet Caique a nice warm bowl of water to play and bathe in!! You will certainly get the giggles watching a caique play!!

Lovebirds in all colors!!

We have several different colors of Lovebirds available right now. We even have a violet colored lovebird and of course lots of peach faces. Love birds make terrific pets for children.

Cockatoos

Look at this sweet Rose Breasted Cockatoo. She is 2 years old and loves to snuggle and be talked to. Rose Breasted Cockatoos are sometimes called Galah cockatoos also. They have all the sweetness of a cockatoo, but do not get as loud as the larger cockatoos get. Rosey would love for you to come visit her at the shop soon!!

We also have 2 Goffins, 2 Sulfur Crested Cockatoos, and 2 Umbrella Cockatoo available.

Here we have 3 baby Blue and Golds 3 to 5 weeks old. They are relaxing between meals and naps in this video. Unweaned babies are kept and fed in our Nursery. This room has been designed to be completely isolated and has it's own air filtration system. The babies enjoy a quieter environment in the nursery. When you visit our store you can view the babies through the glass windows of the nursery.

Here is a short video of two of our weaned Macaws we have available now. The one in the front is a Miliffon which is a hybrid between a Military and a Buffons Macaw. The Macaw in the rear of the video is a Greenwing. Their names are Camo and Cocomo.

We have lots of Macaws available in our shop right now. We have the 3 baby blue and golds in the nursery, and in the bird room we have 1 Blue and Gold, 2 Scarlet macaws, 1 Greenwing Macaw, and a Miliffon. The babies in the nursery of course will not go home until they are weaned, but if you fall in love with one you may leave a deposit for them and we will hold the bird for you. You can then come by to visit your baby any time and watch him or her grow.
